Frequently Asked Questions about Cake Smashes! I thought I would make a quick little post to tell you more about my Cake Smash sessions! These sessions are such a fun way to celebrate babe's first year and I think they're a must, personally! How long is the session? These sessions are about 45-60 minutes. We will start out with family photos, then start breaking it down. If siblings are involved, we'll do some sibling portraits! I like to add mom into this shot to get her with her babies, then we'll swap in dad for the same shot. We'll do some portraits of just babe by themselves, before they get messy. I like to get close-ups to capture those beautiful, big eyes and a few of them playing, interacting with mom, dad, and/or siblings; basically some non-posed, natural photos. change outfits and switch over to cake smash! Do I need to provide the cake or do you? You will need to provide your own cake! I provide the cake stands through, if you'd like one! I have 10 different ones of various styles you can choose from. If my session is in the evening, how long do they have to eat the cake to get the shot?? The cake smash itself is only about 5 minutes or less! I have littles of my own and fully recognize that sugar before bed is not good for anyone! I grab about 50-60 photos while they eat, including close-ups of little hands and messy faces, and then we cut them off! Can I bring props like a number 1 balloon, strand with tassels and the word ONE, etc? Please do! I have 3 different styles of letters that spell ONE (M brown cardboard letters, L white wood, rustic letters, and M black letters) If you would like to bring anything else or have a theme in mind, I would LOVE to make it happen!! I'm open to literally anything! If you have other questions about cake smash sessions, send me an email via my 'contact' tab! I'd love to answer them and hear more about your vision!

Everyone always prays for the perfect weather on your wedding day; I know I did! Something I always tell my brides though is no matter what happens, by the end of the day, YOU'LL BE MARRIED! Rain or shine! One of my good friends got married on March 11, 2023, and I had the honor of photographing her big day. Rain was in the forecast all week and despite our hopes and prayers that it would dissipate, it rained all day! I even tried to scare the rain away by packing my clear bubble umbrellas (literally every time I pack these for a session, the sun comes out lol). But it's all good, we still got some amazing shots and the umbrellas will definitely be a memory Rachel and Todd will never forget! The cloud cover especially made for some gorgeous, moody vibes for the bridal party photos! The View at Briarcliff was the venue for the reception and the tall windows did not disappoint. If it had been sunny, we would have been blinded! SO blessing in disguise that it rained! It even let up for us to do an early 'golden hour' with my bubble umbrellas. So moral of the story- rain or shine, you're freaking marrying your best friend- nothing can ruin that!

I LOVE finding new locations for senior photos. Vintage spots, modern spots, city, country- you name it, I'll find a cool spot for us. Englewood is a small neighborhood tucked away on the north side of Independence, just off the Square. In the last 2-3 years, it has been getting revitalized by investors looking to improve the old arts district. There are so many beautiful, unique architectural highlights to be noted in Englewood, it truly made for a unique senior session! Erica is a big theater gal at Blue Springs HS, so it was fitting we spent some time in front of the old Englewood Movie Theater! Check out her senior photos on my Instagram, @_kayleefromkc.seniors_
